Stages of Summer

As a Scenic Design Intern at Mainstage Center for the Arts, I spent the summer helping design, build, and paint six theatrical productions: SpongeBob Jr., Shrek Jr., The Wedding Planner, Beetlejuice Jr., Winnie the Pooh, and Seussical. Each show required its own visual identity, which meant managing overlapping build schedules, quick turnarounds, and constant coordination with the production team.

My work ranged from set construction and scenic painting to material prep, detailing, and troubleshooting challenges across multiple shows at once. The fast pace of the shop strengthened my technical skills, sharpened my adaptability, and deepened my understanding of how environments support performance and storytelling.

This experience reaffirmed my love for scenic design and the collaborative process behind bringing a world to life onstage. I’m excited to carry these skills forward into future projects.
